A tale of the Minister and us.

Grade ten students swamp the Multi Purpose Hall, brimming with curiosity and anticipation of what lay ahead of them. What would it be about? Why had the praiseworthy Minister of Education - whose schedule was far too crammed – had made time for this visit? What would he talk on? Questions and questions filled up each head, all waiting for answers that would be given in due course of time.
The crowd hushed and instantly rose from their seats at the first appearance of the impeccable figure. One of the school prefects, Ms. Tandin Wangmo Das warmly welcomed the Hon’ble Minister with her ever immaculate vocabulary that stunned the audience. A fine articulate orator indeed, fully justifying her capacity as a perfect.
With humorous words and kind smiles, the students were soon captivated by the sheer force of His Excellency’s charisma. They listened along with childlike glee, nodding, laughing and in total agreement to every word he conversed.
"Like all parents, we hope and pray that our children would succeed in life" he says, eyes twinkling with delight from his ever-present grin. The Minister lovingly adds in how he saw each and every one of them as his very own children. The honesty of the statement warmed every heart and soul present in the hall.
The real purpose behind the convention is revealed when he inquires on the consumption of the sweets that were distributed prior to his arrival. He bluntly states that those who did consume it would face problems and have a difficult spouse and vice versa - here the students laughed. According to the Hon’ble Minister, the sweets refer to the ''temptation'' to indulge in unethical activities.
To further supplement his point, a video was played, ''The Marshmallow Experiment'' it stated in bold letters.  In the video, various five year olds were placed in room whereby they were given a single marshmallow. They were then given the choice of either consuming it instantly or to wait for fifteen minutes which would earn them another extra one. In this video clip too, the marshmallow symbolizes "temptation" clearly demonstrating how waiting or refraining from temptation could make you gain milestones or merits .  It serves as a timely reminder to all of us about the state of our minds.
This test proved that those who waited; those who resisted the urge were the ones that succeeded in life. Those who could not resist the temptation and consumed it immediately faced a troublesome future. Why?
According to the Minister, there was a part of the brain that solely focused on advising oneself. The advisory part of the brain plays a crucial part in the everyday life for it would help one to decide on what would be the best option for oneself at that state of time and place. This is why it is important to maintain it in the best possible condition.
"Let's say, you're riding down the hill four-hundred-kilometer-per-hour," says the charming Minister in a lighter tone, "the healthy part of your brain would tell you to stop and thereby you would avoid an accident. However, the unhealthy part would encourage you to go even faster and in doing so, you would risk your life."
He relates how the so called 'chocolate' is but the symbol of temptation.  He mentioned that there are about two-hundred temptations one would face every day, however the best option would be is to steer away from any temptations.
The Minister lightened up the mood by narrating a rather amusing story. During his much younger years, he and his friends were into the idea of finding a significant partner. And so, during their search, they began to take part in unhealthy practices which lead to detrimental addictions. They were very much focused on the foolish goal which would virtually block any logical thinking. He recalls those days with a grim smile but brightens up immediately upon when he recaps on how he had learned to quit.
Six years ago, he discovered the 'secret' which changed his life forever and the secret is available to all of you, he exclaimed! The only difference he emphasized was the words of hopes in instilling the younger generation with values he never could incorporate into his habits as a child.
The ''secret'' as mentioned refers to the urge to fight against ''temptation'' of all sorts, which determines the will to stand against the immoral but very alluring practices and to give a proper second thought every time you encounter such temptations.. "Don't eat the chocolate now," the Minister particularly stressed as a reminder to fight against these attractions.
The Minister had shed light to the darkened portions of the teenage life in an extremely effective manner by illustrating his own experiences. He was able to articulate his thoughts magnificently and connect with the students; truly is a man of high caliber. The underlying message that was conveyed to all of us was, to stay away from all sort of temptation to get involved in unwanted activities; how enticing it might be but should have the strength to stay away from it.
The students that day, left for home with new information to share with their parents and relatives about the humorous tale of their beloved Minister.  How wonderful that day had been for the students of grade ten.

Sports play a very important role in each individual’s life as sports ensure a healthier health which is the equivalent to being wealthier. As each of us is different from one another like, which one loves might be hated by the other and in which one excels the other one might fail.  In order to showcase sporty talent in a person and because of the importance of sports in our life, sports day was held on 9th April 2016.  After all the selection of runners, broad jumpers, high jumpers, and so on from various houses it was the final selection to choose one of the best.
It was 7:50 AM sharp in the morning when we are entered the athletic ground decorated by bright colored pieces of cloths around which showed the line of demarcation and very interestingly there was a first aid tent at the corner that indicated how mindful and caring the staffs are concerning the health of the students.
Other At 8:30 AM all the participants of the drill and Parade assembled in the ground which was surrounded by the synthetic track getting ready from their upcoming event which they had been practicing for a long time.  At 9:00 AM a reverent silence fell over the crowd as the highly honorable chief guest Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo was warmly welcomed by respected principal with other staffs and school captains who were earlier receiving parents who came to witness their child’s program.
As soon as the minister entered from the entrance,  Sir. Penjor Gyalsten (HEP) blew the whistle which was meant for the drill to start.  In order to welcome his Excellency, the drill as usual was performed by the class seven students of all the houses with basketball on a Bhutanese song which they had been practicing from a month ago. Wow the drill was really refreshing the way it was synchronized and choreographed it was really wonderful.
The warmly welcomed Lyonpo inbounded towards the tent as the drill ended headed by two scouts pilot and we all sang our National Anthem With pride in a pleasant and audible voice after the Troop Leaders command. It was followed by Marchang Ceremony, then Lighting of Olympic torch which was lit by the Chief Guest followed by Oath Taking Ceremony. After all of the tracks events the most awaited moment came which was the giving of certificates and Medals to the winners in their respective field by the chief guest.  The best athletic boy award was also rewarded to Pema Wangchuk of class 10”A” and the best athletic girl awarded to Sangye Dema Thinley of 8”A”. Message from Minister for Education to Teachers

My Dear Teacher,
I am certain that you are busy in the swing of things at school, working hard to provide the best to our children every day, going out of your ways and beyond duty. I know this because not very long ago, I was also a teacher. I am still a teacher at heart.
I know the amount of dedication and perseverance that goes into making a good school, and I certainly know how tedious it is to stand long hours teaching and correcting hundreds of notebooks everyday. But you, more than anyone else knows in the depths of your hearts that our country stands tall today because of this seemingly insignificant and mundane routine called education undertaken every day by teachers like you.
Besides Education, I do not know of any other force that is as powerful to create a future that we desire. That is why, as teachers, we are creating the future through a mission known to many as 'teaching'.
In His Majesty's Vision of Education your role is critical. That is why Honorable Prime Minister, Lyonchoen Tshering Tobgay has launched an ambitious challenge to reform our education system to fulfill the Royal Vision where teachers are at its heart. Knowing our teachers, I feel assured of your continued commitment to this important mission of education.
Our teachers work long hours under trying circumstances, sacrificing personal comforts. Thank you for reaching school earlier to welcome students at the school every morning. Thank you for sleeping late preparing lesson for the next day and correcting students' work. Thank you for buying supplies when the school runs out of resources. Thank you for modeling to our children the good values of integrity, honesty, respect, courage, hard work, trust, responsibility and generosity - values that our beloved His Majesty calls - 'Damtsi'.
Much as we have achieved, much is still to be strived for. I am confident that, with the likes of you steering the wheels of our schools, education can only get better and therefore the future of our beautiful country will be better. The stakes in our profession are high. If we fail, our nation fails. That is how important and sacred our role as teachers is.
On my part, I promise you that I will give you my best. I do not bring extraordinary talents but be assured that I will work tirelessly for the cause of teachers who wants to be good teachers - making a difference to our children. I thank you for being the candles that are self consuming to light the ways of others!
With high regards,
Yours Sincerely,
Norbu Wangchuk

His Eminence Gyalwa Dokhampa’s visit to our school.

His Eminence Gyalwa Dokhampa’s visit to our school.

28th March was a day that started out gloomy with rain, weathers like this may invoke feelings of sadness, depression or simply the urge to just sleep in the comfort of your bed the whole day. Perhaps one can look at it that way or one can look at the rain as the beginning of a new day, as a means of purifying the negative thoughts and words said and making room for something important to be realized. Today I looked at the rain as the water helping the growth of hope.
As the rain calmed, the sun rays hit the ground, evaporating the remnants of rain back to the sky; to where it belongs. Students were asked to gather in the assembly ground. So, carrying our kabneys and rachus, we walked out of our classes to the assembly ground and started to line up according to our sections and sat down after doing so. Soon after we were all settled down, His Eminence arrived as graceful as rain.
His Eminence was going to give us the Jitsuen Dema blessing today, but anyone who has had a session with His Eminence before would know, there are more than just prayers chanted and repeated with Rinpochhe; He almost certainly includes teaching us more about the history of Jitsuen Dema, Buddhism, karmic connection, why everything has a cause and effect and more.
Today, Rinpochhe talked essentially about how everything has a cause and effect. The good that happens to us in the present maybe the result of something good you did in your previous life; fitting to the famous proverb, “You reap what you sow,” and if something bad is happening to you, it might be due to the negative karma you accumulated in your past life. But Rinpochhe reminded us that there isn’t a fixed destiny. Maybe you did something horrible in your past life, but does that mean you’ll suffer from something horrible your whole present life? No. You are in charge of paving your own path, by doing good and living ethical and moral. You are in control of your own destiny.

Rinpochhe also talked about how greed, beauty and words-either negative or positive- don’t have meaning in its core. But it is our mind that gives it meaning. Our minds control everything, from the way we perceive things to the way we do things. If we all look into life carefully, there wouldn’t be any worries, or sadness or anger if we just learned how to tame our mind. The way you look at the world, all depends on your mind. Happiness, sadness, pain, anger, disappointment, expectations and all the other emotions we feel are all created by our own mind. If we always have a positive outlook in all the situations we have to face and understand why you had to face those situations reasonably, we would certainly be able to live a productive and happy life.
After what Rinpochhe had preached, those who had listened were with no doubt, inspired to become better human beings. Rinpochhe ended his session by giving all the students the blessings of Jitsuen Dema. Our school then presented to His Eminence three cultural performances that etched smiles into many faces. After the performances, Rinpochhe took his leave, leaving behind with us words of motivation and benevolence. I further realized the true essence of life this day, and I hope many of our students did too.

The School Fun Run of 2016

The School Fun Run of 2016

The start of yet another year welcomes fluttering novices and bright beginnings! Students scurry here and there – all too excited of the nearing activities and who’s to blame them when one is really close/ namely the annual school fun run! Perhaps these sort of things would play a much more interesting part in the kid’s heads.
On the recommendation of our ever ebullient sports teacher, sir Penjor, the students have dedicated an hour of their time to train. A very good idea for those who need to build the stamina or to awaken those rusty muscles from their sleep. Sir Penjor has also been very kind enough to inform the traffic police of the incoming waves of the pumped-up students. Pedestrians would notice the unusual amount of joggers whereas the cars were quick to honk at them. Quite the scene must have taken place.
Now that everyone is prepared-more or less in some cases- all that is needed is the marathon itself! Fortunately, the day arrives quicker than expected. Students arouse from their slumber of hard work to finally accomplish what they’ve been training for. The program is to begin at half-past-five however, the students are to report exactly thirty minutes earlier. Yikes! Quite an early morning.
The morning air washes over them like a storm of icy winds – chilling them to their very core. However, the sheer determination painted across each face- instantly warms them up. Teachers soon appear with flashlight to take their places and soon attendance is taken. Roll call is very crucial for a few participants would attempt to win by unlawful means. The students are but a blob of colours and noise and the air alight with excitement that no one could-or would- berate on.
Roughly an hour-and-half later, the sun is but a flicker of orange in the sky when the senior boys take off. Slowly, each batch leaves the starting line.
The route begins from the parking lot and past the flyover bridge. It is at the Olakha bridge when the junior girls will complete half their run. The senior girls and the junior boys will continue on and reaching half-a-kilometre from the welcome gate, the zero point, will return back. With the help of defined leg muscles and vigorous stamina, the senior boys will head on till the welcome gate. What sheer will!
It isn’t compulsory for a student to partake in a marathon, they may suffer from an illness and therefore, will be exempted. They will be given a different responsibility that wouldn’t need as much effort. Several teachers would drive along the route to aid those injured or out of energy. They’d not only give a lift, but supplement them with refreshments. At every checkpoint, the exempted students and teachers would be there to replenish the participants with water. How lovely is that?
At the finishing line/ those ranking in the top three positions would be awarded a cash prize and a certificate in all categories and even those obtaining the positions till the twentieth.
Although at the end of the day, participation is more significant than victory. Students have shed sweat and hours today but more of all, they’ve learned that hard work can achieve anything.

The world water day, 2016

 The world water day

The world water day in Lungtenzampa middle secondary school was held during the morning assembly. There were captains who spoke about the importance of water and others.  Moreover, some students of class X“G” performed a song about the world water day. The song was about how to use water, when to use them, importance of water, etc. Not only that, some other students of classes IX and X also did a play about the way of how people use water, how people waste water, and how some of them are suffering from the shortage of water.
The world water day was observed on 22nd march since 1993.It was declared by the United Nations general assembly. The purpose was to celebrate the world water day is to remind that we should follow the guidelines to save water for us and our future generations. Each year there is a theme for the world water day. The theme for 2016 is “water for people, water by people”.
As the population of the world is increasing, we face many problems like shortage of natural calamities. Some countries of the world are also facing water shortage which is very disastrous for them. It is because people do not handle them properly .some waste them while others don’t even get a drop of water. Therefore, everyone should save water and share it to others and can save many lives of people suffering from shortage of water.

 THANK YOU!

World Water Day – 22/3/2016
The World Water Day is observed on 22nd March every year to create awareness on the importance of water and its conservation. The theme for this year is “Water for the People, Water by the People” while the international theme is “Better Water, Better Jobs.”
People all around the world have participated in the celebrations of the World Water Day and our school had a small programme for the day. There were some charts and banners hung or pasted in front of the assembly ground.
After we recited our prayers, the programme kicked off with a speech from Tandin Wangmo from class 10 ‘J’ who spoke on the reason for observing the day and the importance of water and its conservation. It was a well-spoken speech which delivered new and useful information on the importance of water.
Up next, was a cultural programme, performed by the students of class 10 ‘G’. The students held charts which had messages on water and its uses and its conservation. The song was also beautifully sung by the girls.
Then was the skit which was solely based on the conservation of water and it was funny and entertaining to watch since all the actors had done a wonderful job in playing out their roles. At the end, the characters of the play read out a theme.
The girl’s Health Captain delivered a “Vote of Thanks’, thanking all the people who had participated in this event and this marked the end of the programme. The health club members had done a great job on this event.
